What do I need to get a respiratory fit test?
A respiratory fit test is used for compliance under OSHA’s respiratory protection standard as well as other reasons. To receive a fit test you must be clean shaven and then choose from half or full facepiece respirators. After picking a size a seal check is performed prior to the full fit testing. We perform a qualitative fit test consistent with OSHA’s 1910.134 regulation using either sodium saccharin or denatonium benzoate consisting of a pre-test sensitivity check and seven testing steps. After passing all steps then an annual fit test card is issued for the specific respirator that the user has tested.
Important: Remember that the respirator fit test is not the only requirement for compliance under the OSHA respiratory protection standard. Other requirements include training, MEQ, cleaning and storage, program audits, and a full respiratory protection program.
